Campbell Russell

Campbell was born in Kirkintilloch and studied singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama with Neilson Taylor. At the Academy, his roles included Tamino in Die Zäuberflote, Nero in The Coronation of Poppea and Chevalier de la Force in The Dialogue of the Carmelites. He was winner of the Prize for Oratorio Performance.

For Scottish Opera, he has sung Malcolm in Macbeth, The Shepherd in Tristan und Isolde, Third Esquire in Parsifal, First Priest in The Magic Flute, The Animal Seller in Der Rosenkavalier and Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly. He also sang Malcolm in Scottish Opera's production of Macbeth for the Vienna Festival at the Theater an der Wien.

For Scottish Opera Go Round, Campbell has sung Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte and Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. He has appeared at the Edinburgh International Festival singing the role of Un Laborateur in Le Roi Arthus by Chausson, Eustazio in Rossini's Armid, Erste Diener in Capriccio by R. Strauss and most recently, Rudolph in Euryanthe by Weber.

His roles elsewhere in the UK include Rodolfo in La Boheme, Cassio in Otello and Ferrando, Count Almaviva and Nadir in The Pearl Fishers.

He has sung regularly with the John Currie Singers, appears with and has recorded with The Caledonian Tenors on the CD of the same name, (www.krl.co.uk); for Scotstown Records he has recorded the More Art of Burns CD.
